Biblical Christianity is a religion of FAITH, HOPE and LOVE. On the other hand, Roman Catholicism is a religion of FEAR and INTIMIDATION. Roman Catholics live in constant fear of dying with unconfessed mortal sins before they get to a priest to confess. Roman Catholics are intimidated with such things as excommunication, 'anathemas' (curses) for disobeying Catholic teachings or daring to even question the Church and are discouraged from reading the Bible on their own.
At the heart of the difference between Bible believing Christianity and Roman Catholicism is the Word of God. Biblical Christianity bases its beliefs solely on the Bible. On the other hand, Roman Catholicism places tradition on an equal basis with the Bible. In actuality, greater emphasis is placed on tradition especially when it conflicts with the clear teachings of God's Holy Word. We use the term Roman Catholic because we deny the claims of the Catholic Church that they are the "one true and Holy Mother Church." It is our sincere desire that Roman Catholics would approach this web site with an open mind. We would like our Catholic friends to do the same thing that the Bereans did in Acts 17:11-"These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily whether those things were so." The Confessional Mary Crucified with Jesus The Mass ROMAN CATHOLICISM SAYS 1. Salvation is only through the One true Holy Mother Church. 2. Justification is an ongoing process that begins at Baptism and continues through the sacrament of Penance or Reconciliation. 3. Confession to a priest is the only way of obtaining forgiveness for sin. 4. It is impossible to know for sure that heaven is our home after we die. 5. Peter is the rock in Matthew 16:18; the Church was founded on him; he was the first Pope. 6. Roman Catholic priests have the power to change the bread and wine into the literal body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ (an unbloody sacrifice). This process is called transubstantiation. 7. Mary was conceived without sin, lived a sinless life, remained a perpetual virgin, was taken bodily into Heaven and is the co-Mediator and co-Redemptrix. 8. Tradition is on an equal par with the Scriptures and must be reverenced as such. 9. The Roman Catholic Church gave us the New Testament Through various Councils, She determined which books were to be included in the Canon of Scripture. THE BIBLE SAYS 1. Salvation is by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone. (Jn. 3:16, 3:36; Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:8-9) 2. Complete justification occurs the moment we are saved by God’s grace. (Rom. 1:17, 3:24, 3:28; Acts 13:39) 3. Forgiveness for sins comes from directly asking Jesus Christ for forgiveness. (Rom. 10:9-10, 10:13; 1 John 1:9) 4. We can definitely have assurance of our salvation and the knowledge we will go to heaven the moment we die. (2 Cor. 5:8; 1 John 5:13) 5. Jesus Christ is the Rock upon which the church was founded and He is the head of the church. (1 Cor. 3:11, 10:4; 1 Peter 2:6-8; Eph. 5:23) Roman Catholic apologists claim there is no Aramaic word for ‘a little stone’; therefore, Peter is the rock. (John 1:42) WHY TRY TO ARGUE WITH THE WORDS OF JESUS HIMSELF? 6. In Matthew 26:26-28 and John 6:53-55, it is quite obvious that Jesus is using figurative language because He was still alive when he uttered these words. The word sacrifice literally means an offering involving the shedding of blood and is a total contradiction of the unbloody sacrifice. Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was a once for all event. (Heb. 9:12, 9:24-25, 9:28, 10:10-14) When we eat the bread and drink the cup, we are doing it in remembrance of Christ. (Lk. 22:19; 1Cor. 11:24-25) 7. Mary was a sinner saved by grace. (Lk. 1:46-47) She had other children after the birth of Jesus. (Matt. 1:24-25, 13:55-56, 12:46; Mk. 3:31, 6:3; John 7:10; Gal. 1:19) There is only one mediator between God and men. (1 Tim. 2:5) 8. In Jude 3, we are commanded to “earnestly contend for the faith once delivered to the saints.” Furthermore, the Scriptures condemn traditions of men. (Matt. 15:3; Mk. 7:7-8; Col. 2:8) Roman Catholic apologists quote 2 Thess. 2:15 in support of tradition. Granted, the apostle Paul and the other New Testament writers preached and taught orally prior to writing the gospels and epistles. However, nothing that they taught orally was a contradiction of the clear teachings of Scripture contrary to Roman Catholic doctrine. 9. The final Canon of New Testament Scriptures was settled by the Holy Spirit long before there was a Roman Catholic Church as we know it today. (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21) Church Fathers of the second century certainly did not need any Council to fulfill the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Catholic apologists would do well to thoroughly study the true history of how we got the Bible (Textural Criticism). They would also do well to throughly investigate the teachings of the second century Church Fathers. All of them quoted from the exact books that are currently in the New Testament as well as had lists of all the twenty-seven books. The various Councils merely gave credence to the already finished work of the Holy Spirit. God certainly did not need any Council to determine the canonicity of the New Testament. I WILL GRACIOUSLY DISCUSS THE BIBLE WITH ONE AND ALL. HOWEVER, I WILL NOT DISCUSS ROMAN CATHOLIC TRADITIONS NOR WILL I ARGUE WITH ANYONE. IF YOU ARE A ROMAN CATHOLIC APOLOGIST AND DESIRE TO CALL ME NAMES OR PRONOUNCE CURSES UPON ME, PLEASE DO NOT WASTE MY TIME. BEEN THERE: DONE THAT: I CAN’T BE INTIMIDATED. ANY DIALOG OR DISCUSSION WILL BE STRICTLY FROM THE SCRIPTURES. (KJV) THE BIBLE IS MY ONLY GUIDE AND MY SOLE AUTHORITY. IF YOU CAN’T APPRECIATE THAT; DON’T WASTE MY TIME EITHER. I have been told by many Roman Catholic apologists as well as militant Catholics that there is chaos outside of the “Holy Mother and One True Church.” I contend that there is utter chaos in the Roman Catholic Church. I have also been told that there are some 28,000 Protestant denominations. TO THAT, I SAY, SO WHAT? THERE ARE AT LEAST 28 DIFFERENT CATHOLIC GROUPS AND ALL DIFFER IN SOME OF THEIR TEACHINGS AND DOCTRINES. Any so called Protestant denominations that accept the Bible as their final authority for faith and practice as well as preach and teach all the fundamental doctrines of “the faith once delivered to the saints”, have no chaos. We may differ on minor points of interpretation; however, we certainly do agree on the major doctrines. There are sadly many denominations that have departed from the fundamentals of the faith and are totally liberal and corrupt in their teachings. The sad fact is that Roman Catholics are not encouraged to read or study the Scriptures. If they do read the Scriptures, they are forbidden under penalty of mortal sin to attempt to interpret them. Therefore, they are at the mercy of the clergy who blindly follow after the findings of Trent, Vatican I and Vatican II. 2 Timothy 2:15-16 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. We have a quarterly newsletter CALVARY FOR CATHOLICS.
